Hezbollah, the Iran-backed militant group based in Lebanon, has declared its “victory” over Israel on Wednesday (27 November) following the enforcement of a ceasefire between the two sides.
In a statement, the group credited its triumph to divine support, affirming its fighters’ readiness to counter any future actions by Israel, writes AFP.
The statement claimed Israel failed to achieve its objectives, such as establishing a security buffer zone, halting cross-border attacks, or occupying any Lebanese territories.
The recent conflict escalated on September 23, saw Israel launch airstrikes and a ground offensive targeting Hezbollah strongholds in response to ongoing cross-border clashes tied to the Gaza war. Among Israel’s significant achievements was the killing of Hezbollah’s Chief leader Hassan Nasrallah and the other key figures.
Under the ceasefire agreement, Hezbollah is required to withdraw its forces from north of the Litani River—approximately 30 kilometers from the Israeli border—and dismantle its military infrastructure in southern Lebanon. Despite the truce, Hezbollah emphasised its continued vigilance against Israeli aggression.
